Many people and nations from the ancient times till nowadays consider Winter Solstice as the most sacred holiday of all year cycle. This is the longest night of the year, and we light a fire, being sure that at the other end of the world people do the same, and it was the same thoursands of years ago.

In this necklace I was trying to capture the atmosphere of ancient Solstice. How could it be 2 or 3 thoursand years ago, somewhere in the North? I imagine people in their warmest and clearest clothes, gathering together around the sacred fire, adorning their place with solar symbols.

My Solstice necklace is metal free - I feel like it would be right, only natural materials, gems, wood, bone and fabrics. The necklace contains:

  • Clear Quartz cabochon, crystals and beads. I didn't cover the back side of cabochon to let the light pass through it.
  • pine twig and saw cut, adorned with carving (solar symbol carving is mine and pattern on the twig are made by tree bugs:))
  • wooden and carved bone beads
  • Czech glass beads, Japanese seed beads
Base is made of linen and cotton fabrics leftoves.

Heigth of the pendant is about 6 inches (15 cm). Length is adjustable due to linen ties
